Bitoque Portuguese Steak

Known as Bitoque and pronounced ‘bee tock’, Portuguese steak is a thin, quick to cook steak and covered with a soft piquant and pepper spiced flavor.

Using a better quality steak, this comfort food delicacy will fill any famished child or adult. Cut thin and hammered flat, either pork or beef is seasoned with salt, pepper, chopped garlic, dried bay leaves. Typically served with a fried egg placed on top of the steak before serving, usual accompaniments include french fries, rice, salad. olives and a lemon slice.

I recall the first time I ate the dish in Espargos for lunch. Obviously a dish from the Islands ancestry, a classic menu item for all to enjoy.
