Tile Factory To Liberate Cape Verde From Plastics

The plastic pollution encountered from large national events in the past is being addressed with the development of a tile production factory in Penedo de Janela on Santo Antão Island. The task is “ridding” the environment of plastics in Cape Verde archipelago.

A partnership was set up in 2017 by the Amigos de Paul Foundation in the Netherlands, who began in August 2018 at the Baia das Gatas international festival in São Vicente. During which a “significant amount” of plastics were collected and were later turned into tiles. Plastics from the final of the national football championship in Sal this year and the 2019 African Beach Games take place will also be recycled. The plastic bottles collected during these international sporting events, were sent to the tile factory for the production of tiles. It is also announced that plastics will be recycled from the 29th Santa Maria Music Festival in September too.
