Two Fishermen Are Still Missing At Sea

Further information has emerged subsequent to reporting on Thursday 11th April, that a fishing vessel with a dead man on board was found adrift near the Port of Falucho in Santa Cruz, Boa Vista and that two fishermen are still missing.

The national authorities are continuing to search for the two missing fishermen, who are nationals of the municipality of Santa Cruz. They were officially reported missing at sea yesterday by the search operation, backed by the Coast Guard.

Known locally as Mandela, Nelson Correia, a 31 year old, is the dead victim who’s body was found drifting in the boat on Thursday. The young native of Santa Cruz lived in the bona Da Esperança neighborhood, on the island of Boa Vista.

The local authorities state that along with “Mandela”, there were two other people in the boat, namely his father Eduino Correia “Pina” aged 57 and Carlos Alberto Tavares, aged 28 years old.

Fishermen Eduino Correia and Carlos Alberto Tavares are still missing. And the authorities are searching to find them.

The circumstances of the accident with this vessel leaving the island of Santiago to the island of Boa Vista are not yet known.
