Cachupa is the Cape Verdian national dish and comes in a various guises and recipes, depending on your social standing. It’s related to the French cassoulet and the Brazilian feijoada and combines influences from many parts of the world.
Typically served with a fried egg placed on top of the steak before serving, usual accompaniments include french fries, rice, salad. olives and a lemon slice.
Alongside the Cape Verde national dish of Cachupa, two of my other favourite dishes of Percebes and Cracus. The best place to try these delicacies here on Sal is the Barracuda Restaurant, located on the beach to the east of the pier.
